Meet ‘Datu Wapuu’

WordCamp Cebu 2023 is almost upon us and we’re excited to feature a new Wapuu to the mix! Say hello to Datu Wapuu!

Each WordCamp has its own mascot. At #WordCampCebu2023, we are proud to announce that ‘Datu Wappu’ is our official Wapuu.

ABOUT ‘DATU WAPUU’

Datu Wapuu is inspired by Lapu-lapu, the brave hero of 1521 when Spain invaded our country. This mascot carries a Kampilan (sword) that ‘killed’ Magellan during the invasion and a Kalasag (shield), a wooden shield used by pre-colonial Filipinos.

Datu Wapuu is a datu, a title that denotes the rulers of indigenous people in the Philippines.

THE DESIGNER

‘Datu Wapuu’ is designed by Kim Louis Alejandro. She is a UI/UX designer for more than 6 years. Kim started her career web designer for WordPress for different clients.

She is a genius in solving various design issues to improve their application’s usability. Outside of work, she still is a problem solver. She thinks of solutions caused by her dogs. She tends to rewards herself with food and a lot of getaways for solving so many problems.

All official #WCCebu merch will bear the face of ‘Datu Wapuu’. Each participant will also have an awesome shirt, swags, snacks, and buffet lunch.

See you at WordCamp Cebu 2023!
