The Wapuu-Lapu concept was just a random thought from a conversation. Since Lapu-Lapu is a well-known Cebuano hero and even a city was named after him, merging the concept of Wapuu and Lapu-Lapu might be fun. I love to make puns and the name suddenly came into the conversation with the other WC designers. I can’t believe the joker side of me can be also creative.

Two decades in Cebu is more than enough to learn the beauty of the place and because of the beautiful and colorful culture of the province, deciding what images to add in the Cebuano Wapuu was a challenge. Concepts like hanging rice, ukulele and mangoes were being presented by my fellow designers and we pondered for a while. It took us for like a month to conceptualize until we settled with the iconic dish Lechon as the final symbol. I think the lechon complemented well enough with the Wapuu as both are stout and cute (Haha) plus I wanted to add the headband on the head of Wapuu to make it look like a native Cebuano just like what Lapu-Lapu placed on his head. I hope Wapuu-Lapu is enough to be recognized as a Cebu icon.
