Introducing Wapuu-lapu!

WordCamp Cebu 2019 is almost upon us and we’re excited to feature a new Wapuu to the mix! Say hello to Wapuu-lapu!
A bit of a wordplay and a tribute rolled into one, Wapuu-lapu’s name is derived from Lapu-lapu, who is often regarded in modern Philippine society as the first Filipino hero. He was the first native to resist Spanish colonization and is best known for the Battle of Mactan, which happened in the shores in the island of Cebu in 1521. Wapuu-lapu can be seen wearing the iconic bandana or headgear same as the fabled hero.
Wrapped around his arms isn’t a weapon, but rather, it’s the famous Cebu lechon (whole roasted pig), which is considered as one of the culinary experiences you definitely have to try when in Cebu. You end up enjoying the crispy golden brown skin, as well as the tender and flavorful meat on the inside that has been marinated with spices and herbs. It’s often a staple for all sorts of Philippine celebrations and gatherings.
We’re excited to have Wapuu-lapu be a part of WordCamp Cebu 2019, and we can’t wait to have you with us as well! If you haven’t yet, please purchase your WordCamp Cebu 2019 ticket, which can be located at our tickets page. See you in Cebu!

Our Stunning Banner Image

Our banner image showcases a few of the historic and iconic landmarks and structures that we’ve got around the beautiful island of Cebu, featuring Magellan’s Cross, the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, the Lapu-Lapu Shrine, and the colorful Philippine jeepney. This certainly wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts and artistry of Mark Anthony Abellana. Your contribution to WordCamp Cebu is much appreciated, and we are very proud to share this banner on the forefront of our website. To the entire WordPress community, we’re all excited to see you at WordCamp Cebu. Cheers!
